Kuba Bags & Clutches
“Kuba cloth,” is a hand-made fabric from the fibers of the raffia palm tree in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The cloth is collected worldwide for it’s beauty and craftmanship. Kuba cloth is very labor-intensive to produce. It takes over a month to make a small piece of cloth; finer examples with more intricate patterns can take two or more months to complete. There are different types of Kuba cloth; more elaborate types like Mishinga is very rare. Each piece of Kuba cloth is one-of-a-kind; their widths, lengths, patterns and colors always differ. Many pieces of Kuba cloth only render one bag; if more than one bag can be made, each will still be unique. Dimensions may vary slightly within the same style of bag since we build each bag around the fabric.
